American Stock Exchanges – Useful Information for Beginning Investors

Article by Liam Smith

This is a general article about the NYSE and NASDAQ that should answer several questions about investing in the stock market. What kind of “traps” might come in the way of investors when they begin to trade in the U.S. stock market? Which opportunities should you should seize and which should you ignore?

New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) – the largest stock market in the world. Most companies listed on NYSE belong to the US economy, but companies from other countries are listed here as well. The exchange quotes 3,500 tickers, half of them are most of the time liquid.

NASDAQ (National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotation) is an electronic stock exchange. In the very beginning, it was the stock exchange for technology companies stocks only, but now a lot of companies from various sectors are listed on NASDAQ.

On both exchanges ECN (Electronic Communication Network) system plays an important role. This electronic system executes orders automatically. Thanks to ECNs all buy/sell orders are executed according to the FIFO principle (First In, First Out).

The NYSE and NASDAQ maintain programs of funds insurance and control over all traders and financial institutions. SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) observes every transaction and stops abuses and manipulations immediately.

One of the disadvantages of the NYSE and NASDAQ is the information overflow. There are hundreds of websites providing market analysis, various strategies and blogs, as well as daily reports, free research and surveys from the leading investment companies and analyst firms.

Moments on U.S. stock exchanges that are dangerous for novices: better stay square.

A company’s earnings is a number that comes from the company’s quarterly earnings report. It seems that buying stocks before a company’s forecasted good Earnings and adding to this position after the confirmation of this data is a good idea, but at the same time, you should keep in mind that the most terrible statements of the company may also provoke incredible growth and vice versa.

Upgrades / Downgrades. Forecasts of the biggest investment companies about the particular stocks value in the future. Prices can sometimes gap and reach the amount of several dollars, and dates of these announces are not set clearly. Even if you have a paid subscription to Goldman Sachs advices, positions opened during such an event can bring heavy losses.

Dividends. First, it is not easy to catch the dates when companies pay dividends. Even if you catch the moment, sell a few stocks, and earn on a price down-move (after the dividends are paid, stocks become cheaper for the amount of the sum paid as a dividend), at the end of the month your broker will charge this sum from your account to pay the shareholders their dividends. And nobody can say for sure if the price will continue to move lower. Good dividends might attract the attention of other investors which may lead to a significant stock price growth.

Economic Calendar. Simple logic: lower oil prices will make the stocks of oil companies grow and, and the stocks of airlines fall. But there is no direct correlation between such things as potential earnings and a stock price. Sometimes the market can grow at falling home sales and rising unemployment.

IPO (Initial Public Offering). Initial public offering of securities: offering of the stocks of the company that haven’t been listed on the stock exchange before. First, don’t try to “short” stocks on IPO, stock prices can move up very quickly. You should know the company’s owners personally and have full information about the company’s products and perspectives, otherwise do not try to participate on IPO.

Here are a few common issues that you should know before making your first steps on the stock market.

Using Penny Stock Tips To Be Successful

Article by Lee Mel

Do you know the risk that comes with the penny stock tips? However you are still determined that there are benefits to trading and investing in microcap shares, one of which is the possibility of reaping a tidy profit with just a small investment capital and in a short amount of time. As the saying goes, no risk no reward.

Despite the fact that the penny stock tips might make you incur huge losses, there are some measures that one might put in place to make sure that this does not have such a great effect. The advice that is offered is mainly qualitative in nature.

Knowing your stocks.

This is one of the principle rules in stock investing, knowing what you buy. This means that you should not buy stocks that don’t know very well. Know enough information concerning the stock such as the company behind the stock and the profit or loss trend in the recent past. Furthermore, you should not rush into these penny stock tips but rather observe the stock movement over a period of time before you take the plunge.

Be calm

In order to make it in the penny stocks , make sure that you have enough patience. A lot of penny stock tips come from analyst poring over the company or industry numbers, press releases and other information relevant to the stock. Intrepretation of the analysis will determine the possible results. Therefore it might be tempting to buy into positive press releases or analyst reports, it is better to keep an open mind and read a lot of alternative information before making your decision.

Get to know all the transaction cost that is involved.

To get the buying price of the share, multiplying the number of share by the price per share might not give you the correct price. There are other costs that will be incurred such as the brokerage commission and taxes. You might think you have made a small profit but when you add up all the incidental cost, you would probably have just broken even or suffer a small loss.

Plan Ahead

Whenever you want to enter the stock market based on penny stock tips, you had better have a plan. Have a plan on how to start and finish. Get a plan make sure to stick to it since the profits are as common as the losses and therefore one should not be governed by greed.

What Do The Market Indexes Represent?

Article by Ben Lardes

The most popular market index you will have heard of is the Dow Jones Index. But this isn’t the only index in use. Regardless of which ones you follow however, it is always a good idea to learn more about these market indexes and what they represent.

Basically speaking the market index tells us what is happening in that particular part of the stock market. So regardless of whether it measures a hundred different stocks or a thousand, it provides a way of getting an overall picture of how well those stocks are doing – or of course, how badly. Some market indexes represent a wide ranging picture of the market because they include lots of different types of stocks. Others focus in on a more specific area, such as dot com businesses for example. So it is possible that one index could look quite positive while another looks more pessimistic. This would be the case if dot com businesses were doing well in a market that was performing badly in general.

A market index represents all of the stocks in the market it is focusing on. You will probably have heard about the Dow being down a certain number of points, or up a certain number of points for example. The points represent how much value has been gained or lost on specific shares.

So broadly speaking if ten shares go down in value and the rest stay the same, the index being used will drop in points. The more value is lost, the bigger the points deficit is. In contrast if those ten shares go down and twenty others go up by a large amount, the index as a whole will go up in points.

As you can see a market index of any kind can only give a broad picture of what is going on in the market on any one day. Thus it should really only be used as a guide to the market and nothing else. If you look at a falling index you would be right in thinking this was bad for the stock market in general. And you would be right, but you need to remember that word ‘general’.

Typically speaking market indexes provide an initial picture. They do not reveal the story of individual stocks unless you look closer, and this is what many new stock market investors must remember.

Article by Panki

In these times of cut throat competition and technologically advanced times, folks have turned every stone to ensure that money is earned in immense measures. While searching for various alternatives one option that strikes the brain and immediately forces us to think about it is the stock market. It is a very tempting façade to gross fast cash. These steps to earn quick money should be taken with extra caution and vigilance as it might transform itself into a giant money pit which can never be filled up to the brim. It can engross your hard earned money in a jiffy leaving you bankrupt.

The share market is a place where stocks and shares of various companies ranging from small, mid-sized to large blue chip corporations are acquired and traded. The basic scheme behind purchasing a share is that the person buying the shares of a particular company is entitled as a share holder of the company and can be thought of as a virtual partner (of course with diminutive share in overall market value). This entitles the share holder to obtain certain part of the total profit made by the company.

Folks should not harbor the thought that buying a share can give them the right to have a say in their daily working procedures. With the risks associated with the share market it also act as a haven for surging profits and incoming revenues. There are a variety of shares available in the market and the appropriate type should be bought keeping your financial portfolio in mind. Some stocks pay off regular dividends while others reap huge benefits in the future. Some folks have the idea that this is a type of gambling which is a wrong notion. This market place can turn into a profitable business arena with the proper research and analysis of companies which have the potential to grow big in future.

In depth knowledge and know how of the inside workings of the stock market will also go a long way in maximizing the ROI (Return on Investments). Thus depending on your personal knowledge can prove catastrophic and therefore taking assistance of services of professional stock broking firms is highly advisable. These firms offer resourceful and accurate nifty tips, intraday tips, option tips, intraday calls and nifty calls which are sure to help individuals take the all vital verdicts on stock purchases at just the right time. Some firms have the repute of providing 99.99% accurate tips proving themselves as undeniable assets in this market context. These firms have specialized team of experts who analyze company profile, its history and other market trends and tends to predict future dip or surge in stock prices.

People should always remember that the stock market is frequented by scams and fraudulent and is highly volatile & sensitive. But there subsists an assured cadence in the share market in spite of its unpredictability and fluctuations. Thus calculated risk is the word of the day and one should go forward with caution.

With people increasingly wanting to have a better future, live a lifestyle that is classy and elegant, has needs and requirements that are high end and expensive, it isn’t surprising to see that most people today want to make fast money either as a full time or even as an additional source of income. This is something that every individual is aiming at today and there are a number of alternative mediums that will enable people to earn the quick bucks that have become so crucial today. The investment markets are thriving since more and more people are investing here and one of the best and the most common method seen today is share trading.

Share trading is highly popular today since it is fast, effective and beneficial too. However, one must have complete knowledge about the share trading company they are investing in since only if one has complete faith on the company they invest in will they benefit from it. With a number of fraud companies playing in the field, it is always better to do a thorough research on the company before investing since you are putting your hard earned money in the same. Go through different reviews, testimonials, consumer satisfaction records etc. before you make your decision.

Share trading is one of the most used methods to earn money today and one can easily decide upon their requirements before purchasing a share. Know if you have short term or long term goals and plans and this will help you tread carefully and make the right decisions.

Before dealing with Share trading it is extremely essential to understand the market thoroughly. Only if you understand the market well will you be able to take the right decisions. Know the past, present and future trends of the markets that did well, are doing well and will rule in the future. Understand the subtleties of the market and only this will help you gain good returns in the market. If you do not understand the market, you will incur huge looses since it is a highly volatile market. If you are a novice, take professional help till you learn the ropes of the industry at least so that you make no errors.

Equity Shares Trading And Indian Share Market

The share market of India is dominated by online trading and investors constitute all class of people, the young and the old alike. It is only market knowledge, a computer and the Internet that makes investing possible at a click of the mouse. And with an online trading account facilitating your shares trading , you need not physically visit your broker. You will be guided in your buying decisions by your broker online. Getting registered at brokerage platforms further makes the process easy. It is because you get guidance, tips, and lots more right at your mail box.

Trading in equity shares online entails with it a number of advantages. The process begins with opening an online trading account, i.e., a demat account. It is an account in digital form and means dematerialization of the trading account. Unlike a physical trading account which needs the submission of a number of documents, a demat account requires your PAN card, which is mandatory. You may or may not require submitting other documents. You will have to deposit enough cash in your demat account which can be linked to your bank account. It is easy to use and its flexibility as well as the security factor associated with it is an added advantage. Once you buy equity shares, money gets transferred automatically and in case of any profits gained from the same, the amount gets automatically credited too. The whole process is digitized and made hassle-free and easy for the investor. Your broker will only guide you and update you about potential equity shares. It rests wholly upon you to give your decision whether to buy the same whether to hold it for some time and the like. There are a group of stock brokers who select potential stocks and then buy and sell them on behalf of the investors.

It is strongly recommended that you watch share market live regularly if you are seriously investing in the share market in India. The market is highly volatile and market fluctuations may drive your investment prospects towards the drain. If you are equipped with complete knowledge about the share market, you will be able to take intelligent decisions and gain profits at a stretch. To watch share market live, visit any online brokerage platform and if you are already registered as aforementioned, you can view it in the said platform.

The share market of India has two major stock exchanges – the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The calculations are done on a free float market capitalization method represented by the Sensex and the Nifty. There are also a number of other stock exchanges prominent at the state levels.

Normally Go By Your Common sense when investing in the share market place

Article by Michael Miller

As it is your hard earned money which you will invest in the share market and also, will reap the fruits of your investments in the later years of your life, so you must always be careful and take some extra care in selecting the good shares for the investment.

You must never go by the market trends as they are only for the short term, in which sometimes, vested interest are there who have hands in the unrelated and unusual movement of the share prices. Make it a point to invest only 30 percent of your money in the shares, about 40 percent in the bullion or immoveable asset like properties, land and the rest in the debt instruments. You should never get involved in a rat race and buy some fancy share riding the bull at high prices and NEVER EVER borrow the money to make investments in the share market whatever be the merit of the investment.

Always keep track of the price to the earning ratio of shares and the share index. You should turn watchful when the index price to the earning ratio get past 20 and above 23 try to encash all your invested money. History of stock markets amply warns us of troubles whenever the ratio of index price to earning crosses the 23 mark.

When you have no target BUY and SELL price of your shares, you are easily misguided by any downward trend emanating in the share market and you then would surely miss any opportunity for purchase at your own BUY price and do selling at your SELL price. So, always be sure of your own target BUY price and SELL price and you will then always be able to GET IN and GET OUT in share market without incurring any losses.

You must never go by the advice of your broker alone, as his advice will be more compelled by the commissions which he could earn from you rather than any sound fundamentals for the shares he may suggest. You should also keep in mind that large number of shares announced as the IPOs are intentionally introduced during the bull phase of the market. I have seen the cancellation of umpteen IPOs when markets are bearish. When financial institutions back any IPO, they may be doing so for their own motive.

So, my advice is to make investment in a fundamentally sound company having a sound track record during the market downtrend to bring down the average cost because you will then be turning a trend (downtrend) to your advantage!

Were You Thinking of Buying Penny Stocks?

Were you thinking of buying penny stocks? You’re not the first to thinking that they will find the next Google while it is still less than .00. Many stocks that trade on the markets were once valued at less than that. To be considered as penny stocks, most will say that the stocks value is a share and then there are others that say or less. Whatever the difference, buying stocks that are low valued doesn’t mean that you’ll become the next Warren Buffett.

There are many brokers out there that will sell you stocks that are valued at or less, but be advised that not all brokers should be trusted. Brokers make their money by selling stocks to you. They may not be very forthcoming to you with all or correct information. There are many online brokers that make claims of investing in a company and in a few short months and their gains are 500% or better. What they don’t tell you is that the company was one of a hundred that they’ve invested in. The other ninety nine companies have lost value or are completely bankrupt and they lost all the money that was invested.

Anyone that would tell you that they can and will make you money is not a professional. A broker may tell you that he has some insider information on a stock. Let me tell you now that that can’t be further from the truth. It is illegal for anyone with inside information to share it with someone who not on the inside. Executives of a particular company need to inform the share holders of anything he/she does in regards to buy or selling any of the company’s stock. Martha Stewart went to prison because she received inside information on her company and sold some of her stocks in the company.

When you’re thing of buying penny stocks, don’t listen to just anyone. Research the company yourself.
