Oxfam’s Farm Bill Campaign Thank You Video

You might have heard that the US Congress just missed a huge opportunity to help poor people around the world. For the first time in five years, they had the chance to rewrite the Farm Bill so that it reduced farm subsidies, the same subsidies that go to mostly large farms here in the US and fuel a cycle of overproduction that hurts family farmers here and abroad. We will build on the progress made and continue to support family farmers around the globe, by advocating for better trade policies, increased market access, and innovative agriculture techniques. Please know that thanks to people like you, farm subsidies were at the center of the Farm Bill debate. With your help, we'll keep building up the pressure to change US farm policy.

Victor Menotti at Trans-Pacific Partnership Rally

Victor Menotti, executive director for IFG, speaks in San Francisco to welcome the US Trade Representative. Negotiations within the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) framework were held in San Francisco from June 14 to June 18. While the Obama Administration campaigned for a new approach to American trade policy, some analysts see worrying signs that US objectives will be based on previous proposals championed by Halliburton under the Bush-Cheney White House; those proposals called for global deregulation of energy services, specifically the cement-casing and testing services that failed in the blown-up Deepwater Horizon oil rig. BP's disaster highlights the need to shift from fossil fuels to conservation and clean energy; to achieve this, governments must maintain the right to regulate. According to IFG Executive Director, Victor Menotti, "democratic control over energy policies are a global imperative to address converging crises in security, economy, and ecology, so new trade policies are needed to ensure governments can protect our ecosystems and the livelihoods they sustain economically. In light of the Deepwater Horizon disaster, we call on US officials to take off the table any proposals ...

Dying to Get In (Documentary Trailer)

Undocumented Immigration Along the Mexico/US Border. An award-winning film by Brett Tolley. Purchase the full-length 40 minute DVD at www.amazon.com The US/Mexican border is one of the world's best laboratories for learning the effects of globalization. As a global community it is our responsibility to understand the relationships between developed and developing countries. Moving into a 21st century of global trade, global travel, and global communication, we are all personally connected to the world's population. The clothes we wear, the food we eat, and the air we breathe connect us with individuals around the world; a majority of whom live in poverty and do not earn enough money to support their families. Undocumented immigration is merely one of the aforementioned effects of globalization. Along the US/Mexican border since 1994 the number of deaths in the Southern Arizona desert has continued to increase until in the summer of 2005 it reached a record high. Many of these deaths occurred from dehydration. The larger context behind our country's undocumented population shows that trade policies and economic sanctions do not allow people to stay ...
